Things to See in Murcia
September 18, 2008
Murcia is a very easy location to find in Spain because it borders Alicante on the Costa Blanca which passes through Torrevieja. You will immediately know that you are in Murcia because of the amazing beautiful natural scenery of salt swamps. The capital city is called Murcia as well, and has a lagoon known as the Mar Menor which is separated from the Mediterranean sea by the Manga, which is a small sandy stretch of land.
Murcia benefits from very nice hot summers which often reach in excess of 40 degrees, the winters are mild and fairly short. Inland the land is quite arid, however they have still managed to grow many vegetables.
Things you want to see in Murcia
The easiest way to fly into Murcia is probably though the San Javier airport, this is around 30 minutes away from Murcia and is located right next to the Manga in Mar Menor. You might also want to consider flying into Alicante airport, which is a much bigger airport. You will need to drive for around 40 minutes in order to reach the city from this airport.
Every visit will be great fun as you get to look at some wonderful architecture and culture before you have chance to enjoy the nightlife and the food. You will start enjoying Murcia as soon as you arrive.
The cathedral was built between the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries, this has many different styles of architecture because of the amazing length of time it took to build. On the front door of the pardon there is baroque carved art, there is also a gothic chapel, a renaissance chapel and a stunning tower with an amazing 25 bells!
If you travel to the outskirts of the city then you will be able to find a sanctuary which commemorates the patron saint of Murcia, this is called “The sanctuary of the Good Saint”. This was built way back in the eighteenth century and commemorates the patron saint of Murcia. The figure of this patron saint is carried during a procession which goes from the sanctuary to the famous cathedral during the Easter and the Main Festival in the Summer.
There are two amazing festivals which you might be interested in visiting, these are very popular with tourists and locals alike. During the Easter week there are a number of processions and an Easter Sunday spring festival.
During the summer months, which is after all when most people will want to travel there are a number of festivals. From music festivals, to festivals celebrating the tourists. In 2005 there was a very large music festival which attracted musicians from all over the world. Turkey was represented on July 15th for example. However this event is held every year, with different people.
Finding Good Deal Benidorm Car Hire
September 17, 2008
Hiring a car in Benidorm is actually a pretty easy thing to do. Thousands of tourists flock to this city every year. There are over 20 separate companies which hire cars in Benidorm. The city has international and national car rental firms. You should be careful to compare the rates, packages and any fees so that you can get the best deal.
Benidorm Car hire - Reserve your Car
You should make sure that you reserve your car before you leave home, this means that you can get the best deal available. You should make sure that you compare the prices of a number of different companies. Try looking on the internet to find great priced car hire. Make sure you compare the features as well as just the price.
You then have an option, you can either decide to pick your car up from the airport, or you can rent it from a company in the city rather than the airport. Sometimes one is cheaper than the other, which is why you should spend some time comparing prices. If you rent from the city then most companies will come and pick you up. You could also catch a bus from Benidorm so that you can pick your car up.
Additional Costs for a Benidorm Car Hire
There are sometimes some sneaky hidden fees which can quickly add up to a considerable amount of money if you’re not careful. You should spend time asking extra questions and read the fine print in detail so that you can avoid extra fees.
Insurance can be very expensive, this should protect any damage done to the car while you are using it. This means that it prevents you having to pay for the damage. Some agreements have this cost built in, however most charge extra for the insurance. Some people will not opt for this extra cost, however that’s your choice.
There are also extra charges for mileage with some cars, this is a very important cost which you need to think about. Some firms offer unlimited mileage, others offer a certain amount of mileage for a certain price and then you pay more for travelling more. You should ask about the mileage when renting the vehicle. If you want to travel a lot then I would suggest going for an unlimited package.
Make sure you check out the time which you need to return the car, some can be returned 24 hours a day, but you need to know when your car is due back. If you return it late you may have to pay for an extra day, which isn’t want anyone wants!
You should spend time comparing the rates for daily and weekly rental, there can be quite a large difference between the two. Sometimes it might be cheaper to rent it for a week even if you don’t need it for the whole week.
You should also find out how much the company will charge if you take the car back without any gas inside. Sometimes they will charge much more than you would buy the gas at the pump. Make sure you ask about this price difference well in advance.
Bottled Water Impacts The Environment
September 16, 2008
Do you desire to live in a way that protects our childrens future? Do you choose to live in the greenest world possible with a conscience, respect and appreciation for the environment?
Many Americans have a strong sense of environmental and social responsibility. We try to make environmentally well advised choices in many aspects of our daily living, yet we ignore one of the major contributors to the endangered state of the planet.
Worldwide in excess of one billion people do not have an uncontaminated source of clean drinking water, this is in excess of 1/6 of the world population, yet we, as Americans, spend billions of dollars yearly for the convenience of drinking from a plastic bottle instead of a water tap. Shame on us.
1.5 million tons of plastic are used to bottle water every year. It takes in excess of 25 times the amount of water to make each plastic bottle than the bottle contains. 300 million gallons of bottled water are imported to the United States yearly.
In America bottled water is often simply an indulgence. Despite our justifications, it is not a harmless indulgence. Bottled water is an environmental catastrophe. Thirty years ago bottled water barely survived as a business in the United States. Today Americans spent more on “designer” bottled water than we spent on iPods or entertainment tickets - $15 billion in 2007. The expected United States expenditure for bottled water will be $16 billion a year before the end of the decade.
As a country we consume more than 30 billion single-serving bottles of water per year. Bottled water is the fastest growing beverage industry in the world, worth up to $22 billion a year. Less than 15% of plastic bottles are recycled, the rest end up in the refuse systems and cost America’s cities over 70 million per year to handle clean up and landfill expenditures. America yearly produces in excess of 800,000 tons of plastic bottle pollution that substantially magnifies global warming.
Last year, Americans carelessly tossed out 38 billion plastic water bottles, about $1 billion worth of plastic. That’s an overwhelming waste, especially considering 1.5 million barrels of oil - enough to power 100,000 cars for a year - were used to manufacture these bottles. And that’s not even including the gas and oil required for packing, shipping and delivering this gigantic volume of liquid.
If you are putting money into bottled water, you are basically purchasing plastic, which is manufactured from petroleum. When we buy a bottle of water, what we’re often purchasing is the bottle its self. One of the main problems with bottled water production is the reliance on fossil fuels. From packaging to transportation, bottled water relies on oil, using 17 million barrels of oil and producing massive amounts of carbon dioxide every year.
In the United States alone, we are hauling 1 billion liters of water around a week in ships trains and trucks. That is a weekly giant convoy equivalent to 37,800 18 wheelers. Water weighs 8 1/3 pounds a gallon. It is so heavy you cannot fill an 18 wheeler with bottled water–you have to allow empty space.
There is an simple eco friendly solution. Tap water is considerably less expensive. As an investigative reporter for the NY Times points out, almost all municipal water in America is so good that nobody needs to import a single bottle from Italy or France or the Fiji Islands.
Pure and safe drinking water should be public, accessible and affordable. The more the wealthy opt out of drinking tap water, the less active political support there will be for investing in developing and maintaining America’s public water supply. That would be a grievous loss.
Access to affordable, pure water is basic to a nations health. In Fiji, a state-of-the-art factory spins out more than a million bottles a day of the trendiest bottled water on the U.S. market, while more than half the people in Fiji do not have a pure or dependable source of drinking water. Therefore it is easier for the average American in Seattle or Boston to quench their thirst with refreshing Fiji water than it is for the majority of people in Fiji.
Meanwhile, if you choose to get your recommended eight to ten glasses a day from bottled water, you could spend up to $1,500 or more every year. The same amount of tap water would cost pennies a day. Recent studies show that many brands of bottled water fail to meet industry guidelines and the cost of even low quality bottled water can grow quite high.
A lot of bottled water is just plain tap water. Many bottled water businesses repackage tap water into plastic bottles, then sell them back to you at prices higher than gas and increasing just as rapidly. Aquafina, as an example, has finally been pressured into amending its labels to advise consumers that Aquafina water comes from tap water. Why not just drink tap water? In fact, more than a quarter of bottled water is just processed tap water.
Plastic containers leach dangerous chemicals. Have you considered why your plastic bottle of water has a warning on the label telling you not to reuse it? The longer you use that bottle, the more likely it is to leach hazarous chemicals into your water.
There is a solution. If you are not confident in your local water supply or wish to safely filter tap water when on the go, carbon-filtered tap water os safer and costs much less than bottled water. According to the Environmental Working Group, carbon filtration of tap water will dramatically lower levels of toxic by products; it is also 10 to 20 times less expensive than bottled water, and does not produce the waste and pollution associated with the packaging and transport of bottled water.
A portable water filter is a perfect solution for water filtration on the go. A portable water filter allows anyone to filter their own water, no matter where they travel; across town or around the world. A portable water filter allows you to free yourself from any unpleasant taste, contaminates or additives. while protecting the environment and your pocketbook. Involve the whole family. A five member family will save well over $7,500.00 a year.
We must stop being unwitting victims of manipulative, explotive advertising. When a entire industry is built up by overwhelming us with a product we do not need, when an entire industry is founded on presentation, packaging and marketing, not the product, it is valid to question how this happened and what the long term impact is upon our planet.

Flying During Off Peak Air travel Seasons will save you money
September 14, 2008
Travelers on a budget can save big by knowing what the peak air travel season is, and trying to avoid it! Peak air travel season sometimes is easy to figure. For example you might expect, the peak travel season to Hawaii, Bermuda, Arizona, Las Vegas, and the Caribbean is during winter months. Proving this the most expensive Airfare to Hawaii, for instance, is in Jan, Feb,Dec.
At other destinations’ peak air travel seasons varies, This is hugely Dependant on location. You will find nearly all are driven by local climate. Speaking in general, when it is uncomfortable at your destination, you will get it cheaper. So going to Europe during the winter will be a bargain, as will a trip to Italy, Arizona or Las Vegas in Summer.
Holidays, Festivals Events And Conventions
Conventional wisdom is not always accurate, however, when it comes to air travel. Holidays and festivals are other factors that determine when a destination’s peak air travel season is. Mardi Gras in New Orleans is an excellent example of this phenomenon. Expect to pay a premium if you are visiting the city during the Mardi Gras celebration.
New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is one of the most highest priced times of all to travel, because of its double-hit. It Beautiful warm weather destination during opposing winter and a reputation for throwing one of the best New Year’s Eve parties on the planet. The actual off peak air travel season to Vegas is August, when everything drops as temperatures soar.
Sporting events that create a peak air travel season include major PGA golf tournaments, like The Masters, and The PGA Championship. Other events include the Superbowl, NCAA playoffs, NBA playoffs and Major League Baseball’s World Series in October.
So keep on top of these events and in your destination city. Another example, is that you will be glad to steer clear of Denver during the Democratic Convention. The Shoe and Magic Show are dates to avoid Las Vegas, because these conventions have a huge effect on peak air travel.
Off season Flying
all of the above information will give you an advantage by flying during the off-season. You have a shorter wait and the planes aren’t as crowded, so this means you are more likely getting to your destination on schedule and in Budget.
Going on Vacation? Try Greece!
September 13, 2008
With rugged escarpments and clear azure water, Greece has a splendor like no other country. Western culture has long been influenced by the civilization of Greece. It really is no wonder that over sixteen million people visit Greece each year. With tourist activities and sites offered in sports, nightlife, and history, experiences in Greece teem. For visitors to Greece, I have compiled some helpful information.
Officially known as the Hellenic Republic, Greece gets that name from the time of mythological Helen. A map of Greece would display the fact that Greece is encompassed by the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas. The ancient country of Greece is located in southeast Europe. Loaded with culture and history, Greece is the pinnacle of tourism. Democracy, philosophy, and theater have their beginnings rooted in Greece.
Most travelers visit Athens. Athens is the capital of Greece, as well as its largest city. Greece is a country that uses the Euro. Many parts of Greece are less touristy and therefore do not have easily accessible ATMs and other tourist-related necessities. Don’t forget this before leaving the major areas.
Many islands contribute to the mainland in the composition of Greece. In summer, both are home to beautiful seaside sights and beaches. Ferrying around the islands of Greece is a common part of tourist’s itineraries. In winter, the mainland also boasts some great ski resorts. Year round, Greece offers many options for travelers.
Food is one of the things Greece is famous for. Your trip will not be complete without experiencing the food. Try some stifado, Greek salad, and spanakopita for a good taste of Greece. Popular all over Greece, Souvlaki, one type of shish kebab, made of meat and occasionally vegetables cooked on a stick, is also used to describe gyros. Pantespani is a sponge cake with customary orange sauce; this is one of the most popular desserts in Greece.
While in Greece, there are many activities to participate in or sights to see. There is the Greece national football team, which is one of the best in the world. They also have the Greek Super League. Composed of sixteen teams, this is the highest level of professional football in Greece. While there, you should see a game, if European football interests you.
If history is one of your interests, Greece will be your heaven! Many aspects of Western culture stem from Greek ancient history. Sites related to these cultural beginnings can be found throughout Greece. Places like the Acropolis and the Parthenon will awe and inspire visions of the past. The palaces that house amazing frescoes on the island of Crete are notable as well.
No matter what the purpose of your trip to Greece, every whim can be catered to. From ancient historical sites to the favored sports of the country, Greek experience opportunities abound. The food and seaside vistas throughout the country will create an atmosphere of romantic tranquility. Lose yourself in the beauty and history that is Greece!
Tropical Vacations - Can Serious Dangers Lurk Under The Sun?
September 12, 2008
Even though these three sun related medical problems, sunburn, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, are not diseases, they can be serious and could put a real damper on your vacation. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and this is especially true when dealing with the sun. Remember that the sun’s rays in the tropics are more intense between noon and three p.m. as well as at high altitudes, even if it’s an overcast or cloudy day.
How can you prevent getting a sunburn?
Usually, the lighter or fairer your skin, the easier you can get sunburned. Even clouds offer little or no protection from a severe sunburn, so why take a chance of ruining your holidays when getting a painful, serious sunburn is easy to protect against? To prevent getting a bad sunburn, particularly if you sunburn easily, use a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 30, or stronger. Use the sunscreen liberally, wear wide-brimmed sun hats, use UVA & UVB protection certified sunglasses, and wear a long-sleeved shirt and slacks. It’s best to try and stay out of the sun between noon and three in the afternoon. Build up exposure to the sun slowly, day by day. Try and limit the length of time you spend in the sun to around fifteen minutes the first day, and gradually increase your time in the sun on subsequent days.
If you get a bad sunburn, what can you do to treat it?
You can ease the pain of a sunburn by soaking in a cool bath three to four times a day. If you add some baking soda to each bath, it will help even more. Cool showers will probably hurt too much, and they are not as effective or soothing as cool, relaxing baths. To help with headaches, or pain and swelling, take aspirin or other pain medication such as Advil or Ibuprofen. Do not take any aspirin based pain medications if you are on blood thinners or have an ulcer. If you are not sure if it’s safe for you to take these pain relievers, check with a doctor or medical clinic. To avoid dehydration, drink at least six to eight glasses of water per day. Do not break any blisters if you can help it. Broken blisters can easily get infected, especially in the humid weather of the tropics. If they do break, wash them gently with soap and warm water.
If the sunburn doesn’t appear to be healing and you are still in pain after a few days, you develop a very high temperature or fever, have a splitting headache that just won’t go away, are vomiting or have diarrhea, feel dizzy or confused, or your eyes hurt and bright light bothers them, you need to see a medical professional immediately.
What can you do to avoid heat exhaustion?
Heat exhaustion is absolutely preventable. If you wear a wide-brimmed sunhat, drink lots of liquids, and stay out of intense heat and humidity, you can you avoid this serious problem.
What can you do if you have any symptoms of heat exhaustion?
Heat exhaustion is precipitated by a combination of high temperatures and humidity. This can result in your body’s loss of fluids from excess sweating. These fluids must be replaced quickly or heat exhaustion can occur.
The symptoms include headache, fatigue, lethargy, giddiness, and muscle cramps. The treatment is to immediately move out of the sun or heat and drink plenty of liquids, preferably commercial beverages containing electrolytes, such as Gatorade. Do not drink any alcohol as this will make your condition worse.
If you do not feel better and show positive signs of recovery in a very short period of time, have someone take you to a hospital immediately as your condition could quickly progress into a true medical emergency, heatstroke.
What has to be done immediately if you do if you get heat stroke?
If heat exhaustion is not successfully treated immediately, it can result in a critical medical emergency. Heatstroke is characterized by an extremely high body temperature of 102 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, or 39 to 41 degrees Centigrade. There is a cessation of sweating. The main symptoms of heatstroke include a flushed, red skin, a bad headache, confusion which can quickly progress into delirium and convulsions, which can then be fatal.
Note: Someone must help you get out of the sun or heat and rush you immediately to a hospital or medical center.
Jet Lagged - Prevention
September 11, 2008
“Body clock” is a twenty-four-hour rhythm of physiological processes of all living beings including animals, and plants. Jet lag is a condition resulting from alteration of this rhythm in a short period of time. When a person travels across a number of time zones in a day, the body processes which are conditioned by daylight and darkness cannot adjust quickly enough for the destination conditions. A person’s body-clock gets disoriented and is what we call jet-lag.
This disorientation can cause a person to be irritable, forgetful and tends to lose their concentration easily. The person may suffer from mild depression, disturbed sleep pattern and loss of appetite. Occasionally the person may suffer from dehydration and develop swollen or uncomfortable feet.
You can become jet lagged when you travel across one or more time zones, not simply because you have spent more time on journey or you have traveled a long distance. A journey from Frankfurt to New York may cause jet lag because it goes across multiple time zones. And yet jet lag is not experienced after a journey from Frankfurt to Johannesburg because it is within the same time zone. Long journeys within the same time zones may give you cramps but not jet lag.
Of course not everyone gets jet lagged to the same extent. Generally older persons are found to suffer less from jet lag as compared to younger ones. Moreover, it is found that women in the reproductive age group are more susceptible to suffer from jet lag. It depends to a large extent on the personal physiological adjustability of each individual person. People who know they normally get jet lagged can take some precautions to avoid severity of discomfort from jet lag.
Try to start the journey in a relaxed frame of mind and avoid rushing around. A good night’s sleep on the day prior to the journey is helpful. During the flight take alcohol in moderation and drink plenty of water. Some light exercises such as stretching and walking up and down the aisle helps. Take off your shoes, wiggle the toes, stretch your legs and this will avoid swelling of the feet.
Some people suggest taking sleeping pills to get over jet lag; but be advised that it may cause rather unpleasant consequences. There are many “anti jet lag” preparations on market but you should observe caution before using them. Anti jet lag diets are available; but apart from their doubtful efficacy, following such a diet for a few days before and after journey strictly could be quite cumbersome. There is an OTC (over the counter) homeopathic drug available which is said to be effective; being homeopathic medicine it may be free of side effects.
Drugs such as Melatonin are advertised as an anti jet lag drug; but you have to start taking it at specific times a few days prior to the journey and continue taking it for a few days after completion of the journey. Its anti jet lag claims are not really supported by research. On the contrary it may lead to worsening of the jet lag symptoms. In fact in UK Melatonin is banned altogether.
In some cases the jet lag condition may persist for many days. Experts suggest that the recovery rate that you can expect from jet lag is “one day per time zone.” Sleep well, eat a sensible diet, relax, and get some moderate exercise are the simplest cures for rapid recovery. How fun does this sound? A vacation is supposed to be a respite from all those “sensible” things. Try to whoop it up anyway. Bon Voyage!
A Typical Travel Insurance Policy For Luggage and Personal Items
September 10, 2008
Sometimes when we go on vacation or on a trip for business, it’s almost as if we are carrying our entire lives along with us in our checked bags, so it comes as no surprise that in this day and age that travelers want their possessions that go along with them to be as safe as possible.
Travel insurance plans have become increasingly popular in the US since the tragedy that struck during 9/11, but before you decide if travel insurance is something that you need to spend your money on, it would help to know what is typically covered by these protective plans.
What’s covered?
Lost or stolen bags:
Some companies offer different grades of travel insurance, much like you can get with your homeowners or auto insurance. Depending upon the level of protection that you choose to pay for, a lost or stolen bag may garner a reimbursement of five hundred to a thousand dollars each. This is a potentially good feature if your bags are stolen, but all airlines have reimbursements for lost luggage which has just been recently raised to three thousand dollars per traveler.
Delayed luggage:
We all travel with things that are absolute necessities; clothes, razors, deodorants and other toiletries - with travelers insurance, if your bags end up at your destination more than twenty four hours after you do, you may be eligible for a reimbursement of up to two hundred dollars or more to purchase these types of items to hold you over until your bags arrive.
What’s not covered?
Under each type of travelers insurance policy that you may invest in, be wary of exclusions. Items that are difficult to prove may not be covered under your policy - things like contact lenses, eyeglasses, and cash are usually among the lists of items that are not covered.
Do you need travelers insurance?
This can be a pretty tough call in some cases, if having the extra protection is going to make you feel safer and able to relax and enjoy your vacation more, and the money isn’t a very big concern, than by all means - invest in the travelers insurance, just be wary that you may already be covered.
Some travelers are eligible for coverage under their homeowner’s insurance policies. If you take the time to check your homeowners policy you may find that you are protected up to a certain dollar amount on lost or stolen possessions.
If you paid for your trip with plastic as many travelers do these days, your particular credit card may offer you certain protections. In fact many cards geared towards business people and frequent travelers have a built in insurance that is far greater than what you would get with a purchased policy - and you won’t have to pay out anything to get that coverage.
If you book your trip through a service you may have some extra protection as well. Online services in which you book your entire trip - from flight to hotel to rental car, often offer some coverage for just using the service and many offer the chance to purchase some additional coverage for a small fee. Though you probably wouldn’t get as great a level of coverage with this method it will often come at a lower price.
With all of the things that we take along with us as we travel these days - expensive clothes, laptop computers, digital cameras and portable electronics - it only makes sense for us to be safe. Traveler’s insurance from Dan Pucher Insurance can be a very good thing to have in the event that one of your bags that contains a very important possession gets lost or stolen, just be sure that you don’t already have coverage for a similar event through another avenue before you spend some of your hard earned money that could potentially have been used elsewhere in your journey.
